PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp that can be improved in the contrast and the color reproducibility of a manuscript reading image by preventing light that is emitted from an aperture of the rare gas fluorescent lamp for use in an original document lighting apparatus or the like, and reflected by an original document from being incident again to the aperture.
SOLUTION : The rare gas fluorescent lamp comprising a glass bulb comprising a glass body of a straight pipe, at least one electrode placed on the pipe wall of the glass bulb along the pipe axial direction, a rare gas filled in the glass bulb, a fluorescent material layer formed on the inner wall of the glass bulb, and an aperture for emitting light generated from the fluorescent material layer to the outside of the glass bulb. A dimmer for reducing the transmittance of the light of a visible light range in the range of a wave length from 360 to 830 nm is provided.
