PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To produce a catalyst which carries Rh on ZrO2 hollow particles and exhibits high activity even after high temperature endurance. SOLUTION : The catalyst comprises the hollow particles composed of ZrO2 added with at least one additive element selected from alkaline earth metals and rare earth elements and at least the Rh carried on the hollow particles. Under an oxidation atmosphere at a high temperature, at least a part of the Rh is formed into the solid solution of the hollow particles and under a reduction atmosphere at a high temperature, the solid solution of Rh of a grain size below several nm deposits. Accordingly, the grain growth of the Rh is suppressed.
