PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a manufacturing method in which unnecessary irregularity on a surface of an R-T-B based sintered magnet is not formed after a heating treatment where a heavy rare earth element RH is diffused from a magnet surface to inside.
SOLUTION : A manufacturing method of an R-T-B based sintered magnet comprises : a step of preparing a particle size-adjusting powder containing powder of alloy of a heavy rare earth element RH or compound thereof; a step of preparing powder of an M oxide (M is one kind or more selected from the group of Mg, Al, Si, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Zr); a coating step of coating adhesive compound over a coating region on a surface of the sintered magnet; a step of making the particle size-adjusting powder adhere to the coating region on the surface of the sintered magnet; a step of making the powder of the M oxide coexist with the particle size-adjusting powder on the surface of the sintered magnet; and a diffusion step of performing a heating treatment at a temperature equal to or below the sintering temperature of the sintered magnet so as to diffuse the heavy rare earth element RH contained in the particle size-adjusting powder from the surface of the sintered magnet to inside thereof.
