PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a small size optical receiver capable of achieving satisfactory optical amplification characteristics.
SOLUTION : An optical receiver 1 includes : a polarization-beam splitter 21; a beam splitter 22; a pair of X optical hybrid circuits 23 and 24; and plural optical waveguides each of which allows received light, X polarization component, Y polarization component and local light to pass therethrough. The polarization-beam splitter 21 separates the received light into an X polarization component and a Y polarization component perpendicular to the X polarization component. The beam splitter 22 splits the local light. The pair of optical hybrid circuits 23 and 24 causes each of the X polarization component and the Y polarization component and the splitted local light to interfere with each other. At least one of the optical waveguides is doped with rare earth ion which amplifies a ray of light having a predetermined frequency when an excitation ray is introduced.
