PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing metal nitride, at the nitriding step of which such a possibility can be made low that an intermediate is contacted with moisture.SOLUTION : The method for producing metal nitride comprises : a preparation step of preparing amide, imide or hydride of an alkaline-earth metal or a rare-earth metal as the intermediate; and the nitriding step of producing the metal nitride from the intermediate by a reaction in a heating furnace of an inert atmosphere. The intermediate is immersed in an organic solvent, which contains no water and no oxygen atom in a constitutional molecule thereof and is used for antioxidation, and the intermediate immersed thus is disposed in the heating furnace to carry out the nitriding step. It is preferable that the nitriding step is carried out in a reaction device and the metal nitride is withdrawn from the reaction device.SELECTED DRAWING : Figure 1
