PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for multiple cutoff machining of a rare earth sintered magnet having a substantial height enabling a cutoff at a high accuracy, by using thin cutoff abrasive blades having a reduced effective diameter, while controlling formation of a step between cutoff surfaces.
SOLUTION : A method for multiple cutoff machining is provided disposing a multiple blade assembly 1 so as to be movable along a rotational surface of cutoff abrasive blades 11, the multiple blade assembly 1 comprising a plurality of cutoff abrasive blades 11 arranged along a rotational axis direction, the cutoff abrasive blades 11 comprising abrasive grain-bonded section 11a on the outer periphery of the core 11b in the form of a thin disk. Cutting operation is started by rotating the plurality of cutoff abrasive blades 11 from one side of a rare earth sintered magnet M to the other side, then is temporarily stopped without cutting off the rare earth sintered magnet M. Then the multiple blade assembly 1 is moved along the rotational surface of the cutoff abrasive blades 11 to the other side of the rare earth sintered magnet M with the position of the rare earth sintered magnet M being fixed to restart the cutting operation from the other side of the rare earth sintered magnet M to the one side, thereby merging cutting grooves formed from the one side and the other side with each other to cut off the rare earth sintered magnet M.
