PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a liquid crystal display element that suppresses display unevenness around a sealant over a long period, and has various characteristics including electrical characteristics, liquid crystal orientation, and heat resistance, in a good balance.SOLUTION : A liquid crystal alignment agent is made to contain polyamic acid ester having a repeating unit represented by the following formula (1) and polyimide having an imidization ratio of 75% or less. In the formula, Rand Rare each independently an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, Rand Rare each independently a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent chain hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms. Xis a tetravalent organic group, and Yis a divalent organic group.
