PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a catalyst for decomposing ammonia capable of decomposing ammonia in an ammonia-containing gas at a high conversion rate to obtain a hydrogen-containing gas and having excellent durability.
SOLUTION : There is provided a catalyst for decomposing ammonia which is used for a reaction producing a hydrogen-containing gas by decomposing ammonia in an ammonia-containing gas, wherein the catalyst contains a catalytically active component and a heat-resistant oxide and contains at least one metal element belonging to the group 8 to group 10 of a long-period periodic table as the catalytically active component, the heat-resistant oxide contains alumina and a composite oxide of an oxide of a rare earth metal and zirconia, the content of the alumina in the heat-resistant oxide is 5 mass% or more and 40 mass% or less (in terms of oxides) and the content of the oxide of a rare earth metal is 20 mass% or more and 49 mass% or less (in terms of oxides).
