The present disclosure provides biophotonic compositions comprising one or more fungal-derived chromophores optionally further comprising oxidants, polymer-based carriers and additional chromophores. Said compositions are disclosed to have utility in the phototherapy of rare diseases that afflict the skin or soft tissues. The disclosure also provides a photoactivatable fiber comprising comprising a plurality of strands that comprise a first thermoplastic polymer and a second thermoplastic polymer and at least one photoactivatable agent associated with the first polymer, wherein the first polymer forms a core and the second polymer forms a sheath surrounding the core along the length of the strand, wherein the ratio by weight of the second polymer to the first polymer is in the range of about 5 : 95 to about 90 : 10 and wherein the at least one photoactivatable agent absorbs and emits light between about 400 nm and about 800 nm.
