PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a coupler of exciting light and signal light capable of transmitting excitation laser power of several kWs without incurring thermal damage, in a fiber amplifier of a kW class doped with a rare earth element. SOLUTION : Generally, a coupler of exciting light and signal light liquid-cooled with high power in a fiber optics application, and a method about the coupler are provided. An optical fiber device spreading heat with high power has a portion of optical fiber configured to propagate light, a cooling chamber for sufficiently sealing the optical fiber, and fluid in the cooling chamber having a refractive index selected to control the interaction and propagation of light in the fluid.
