PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a nickel hydrogen storage battery arranged to use a rare earth-Ca-Mg-Ni based alloy as an active material of a negative electrode, which causes no remarkable drop in discharge capacity during a time from an initial stage to a time for performing about 10 cycles of charging/discharging cycles.
SOLUTION : A battery according to the invention comprises : a negative electrode including a hydrogen-occluding alloy in which rare earth-Ca-Mg-Ni based Gd2Co7 phases including one or more elements selected from a group consisting of Y, Pr, Nd and Sm, and Ce2 Ni7 phases are layered; and an alkali electrolyte solution containing 2.0 mol/l or more of sodium ions.
