The invention relates to the obtainment of one or more element(s) and/or element compound(s), especially rare-earth metals or compounds thereof, from intermediate products or by-products obtained during the production of titanium dioxide, especially from dilute acid, process residues and/or filter salt obtained during the production of titanium dioxide by a sulphate process. The invention particularly relates to a method whereby (a) the dilute acid obtained is reused in a circulatory process, the elements and/or element compounds being accumulated, or (b) additional compositions which contain the desired elements or compounds thereof are introduced into the sulphuric solutions used in the sulphate process.
