PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a novel exhaust gas purification catalyst that can maintain catalytic activity of noble metal in a highly active state, to provide a method for producing the catalyst and to provide an exhaust gas purification apparatus using the catalyst.
SOLUTION : An exhaust gas purification catalyst 10 comprises a first carrier particle 1, a second carrier particle 2 and a noble metal catalyst particle 3 carried each on the first and second carrier particles. In the exhaust gas purification catalyst 10, the first carrier particle 1 contains at least one kind of metal oxide selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, ceria, zirconia and titania and a rare earth oxide other than ceria; the second carrier particle 2 contains a rare earth oxide other than ceria; the content of metal oxide in the first carrier particle 1 is higher than the content of metal oxide in the second carrier particle 2; the content of rare earth oxide in the second carrier particle 2 is higher than the content of rare earth oxide in the first carrier particle 1; and the correlation function is 85.0% or more as determined by an energy dispersive X-ray analysis using a field emission type scanning electron microscope.
