PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a fluorescence material comprising a transparent ceramic sintered compact emitting fluorescence by excitation of LE light or LED light where the color of the fluorescence can adjust by a range between green and orange, and the fluorescence band width is broadened.
SOLUTION : A fluorescence material comprises a transparent ceramic sintered compact containing, as a principal constituent, a compound oxide represented by formula (1) : (GdxLuyYzCewScvQ1-x-y-z-w-v)3(AlpGaqScr)5O12 (1) where x is a range of not less than 0 and not greater than 0.96, y is a range of not less than 0 and not greater than 0.5, z is a range of not less than 0.01 and not greater than 0.9, w is a range of not less than 0.0001 and not greater than 0.005, v is a range of greater than 0 and not greater than 0.04, x+y+z+w+v≤1, at least one of x and y is greater than 0, p is a range of not less than 0.4 and not greater than 0.65, q is a range of not less than 0.15 and not greater than 0.55, r is a range of not less than 0.01 and not greater than 0.2, p+q+r=1, and Q is at least 1 rare earth element selected from the group consisting of La, Tb, and Pr.
