PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for recovering a rare metal from a rare metal-containing glass capable of effectively and easily recovering the rare metal from the rare metal-containing glass such as a glass solidified body containing the rare metal without using an acid solution, an alkali solution, chloride or the like.
SOLUTION : A method for recovering a rare metal from a rare metal-containing glass rare comprises : heating the metal-containing glass at a temperature of 900 to 1100°C in presence of a glass melting agent of 30 to 500 pts.mass per 100 pts.mass of silicon dioxide contained in the rare metal-containing glass and heavy metal oxide of 30 to 200 pts.mass per 100 pts.mass of silicon dioxide contained in the rare metal-containing glass in a closed system to melt the same; cooling the resulting molten article of the rare metal-containing glass to a temperature of 600 to 800°C while contacting carbon monoxide gas with the molten article; and maintaining the temperature to precipitate a rare metal-containing precipitate and recovering the rare metal-containing precipitate.
