The present invention relates to a method for separating a rare-earth element from a rare-earth containing waste abrasive material through a wet type refining process comprises a step of adding sulfuric acid and a sodium hydroxide to a rare-earth containing waste abrasive material to synthesize a sodium rare-earth sulfur oxide, converting the sodium rare-earth sulfur oxide into rare-earth hydroxide, and adding hydrochloric acid and the sulfuric acid to separate cerium (Ce), lanthanum (La), praseodymium (Pr), and neodymium (Nd) from the rare-earth hydroxide. The present invention can recover at least 99% of a rare-earth element such as cerium (Ce), lanthanum (La), praseodymium (Pr), and neodymium (Nd) from the waste abrasive material and reuses the recovered rare-earth element in order to industrially economically produce a large profit.(AA) Rare-earth containing waste abrasive material(BB) First step(CC) Second step(DD) Liquid primary impurity (leachate A)(EE) Third step(FF) Fourth step(GG) Fifth step(HH) Leachate B dissolved with La, Pr, and Nd(II) Leachate C dissolved with Ce(JJ) Solid secondary impurityCOPYRIGHT KIPO 2017
