PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a target which generates few cracks even when deposition is performed for a long time in order to produce a long oxide superconducting wire, and to provide a method for producing the oxide superconducting wire using the target.SOLUTION : A target for preparing a superconducting thin film contains a rare earth oxide superconductive sintered body represented by REBaCuO(RE represents one or more elements selected from rare earth elements), comprises a sintered body formed by sintering a molding of raw material powder containing an RE compound, a Ba compound, and a Cu compound, and is irradiated with laser light on the surface. The sintered body is one having a shrinkage percentage of less than 10% when the molding is sintered.
