PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a metal oxide catalyst for producing butadiene by a fluidized bed reaction, which causes no deterioration in fluidity even when used for a long period and is used for a method for producing butadiene from n-butene. SOLUTION : There is provided a method for producing a metal oxide catalyst, which is a catalyst represented by the formula (1) in which in a catalyst raw material slurry preparation step of mixing and stirring a first catalyst raw material solution containing Mo and a second catalyst raw material solution containing Bi, the stirring is performed at a stirring power within a predetermined range.
