PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To solve the problem in which a broadband light source such as a conventional SLD light source has a problem in broadening a wavelength band and increasing an output power, which are strongly desired to be solved. SOLUTION : By providing a characteristic improvement unit including an optical fiber to which a rare earth element and/or a transition metal is added in accordance with a peak wavelength band of a broadband light source in addition to the broadband light source such as a SLD light source, characteristics of the broadband light source are improved and a general purpose, practical low price ultra wideband light source is achieved.
