PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide manganese-zirconium-based composite oxide exhibiting SCR denitrification activity in a wide range temperature range, especially a moderate temperature (around 300°C) range) and manganese-zirconium-based composite oxide by an industrially achievable manufacturing method other than a manufacturing process of firing a gelatinized article of nitrate and an organic material such as according citric acid complex method. SOLUTION : There are provided manganese-zirconium-based composite oxide having a chemical composition formula represented by Mn(0.5+α)-xM1xZr(0.5-α)-yM2yOz, where M1 represents at least one kind of element selected from VA, VIA, VIIA, VIII, 1B and 2B group and rare earth elements, M2 represents at least one kind of element selected from Ti, Si, Al, Ga and Sn, 0≤x≤0.1, 0≤y≤0.3, 1.5≤z≤2.0 and -0.2≤α≤0.2, a crystal structure which is a fluorite type structure, containing sodium of 30 ppm or less and sulfate radical of 0.3 to 3.0 wt.%, a manufacturing method therefor and an application thereof.
