PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a deoxidant gradually absorbing oxygen in atmosphere over long time and having suppressed ignition. SOLUTION : A deoxidant contains cerium oxide having an A rear earth structure. The cerium oxide can have structure change from the A rare earth structure to a fluorite structure not through a C rare earth structure in an oxygen-containing gas atmosphere. The cerium oxide is preferably one having no oxygen loss excluding oxygen loss contained inevitably. The cerium oxide is preferably represented by Ce2O3.
