The present invention is a method for manufacturing rare earth carbonate fine particles, said method for manufacturing rare earth carbonate fine particles by producing a reaction solution in which a methylmorpholine oxide compound or an alkyl dimethyl amine oxide compound having a structure represented by formula (1) is added to an aqueous solution including a rare earth ion and an excess quantity of urea with respect to the rare earth ion so that the added quantity thereof is 10-200 mol% with respect to the rare earth ion, and performing hydrothermal treatment of the reaction solution. A method for manufacturing rare earth carbonate fine particles which are of submicron size or smaller and which have excellent dispersibility is thereby provided. (In the formula, R represents a C1-14 alkyl group.)
