PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method of manufacturing a modified carbon black capable of providing the modified carbon black as a filler capable of improving low heat generation property of a rubber composition more efficiently.SOLUTION : A method of manufacturing a modified carbon black includes a process of forming a polymer component by polymerizing at least one kind of a conjugated diene compound and an unconjugated olefin in the presence of a polymerization catalyst composition containing a first element which is a rare earth element-containing compound and contains a rare earth element compound and a reactant of the rare earth element compound and a Lewis base, a second element containing a compound represented by the general formula (X) and a third element containing a carbon black and having a water content of 0.01 mass% or more, and a blending weight of the carbon black is higher than the blending weight of the monomer. YRRR...(X), where Y is a metal selected from group 1, group 2, group 12 and group 13 in the periodic table, Rand Rare hydrocarbon groups having 1 to 10 carbon atoms or hydrogen atoms, Ris a hydrocarbon atom having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, however Rand Rmay be same or each different, a is 1 and b and c are 0 when Y is a metal selected from group 1 in the periodic table, a and b are 1 and c is 0 when Y is a metal selected from group 2 and group 12 in the periodic table and a, b and c are 1 when Y is a metal selected from group 13 in the periodic table.
