PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing ethylene without generation of by-product such as acetic acid and/or other oxygen-containing hydrocarbon.
SOLUTION : There is provided a multi-metal catalyst having an orthorhombic M1 phase having a composition formula represented by the formula (I) and prepared by using a thermal method and a hydrothermal method and other crystal structure having important role for providing a high performance catalyst for oxidation dehydrogenation of ethane to ethylene and containing no tellurium. There is provided a method for oxidation dehydrogenation of light paraffin, for example ethane using the catalyst at an appropriate temperature (<500°C). MoVhSbiAjOx (I), where A is Nb, W, Ga, Bi, Sn, Cu, Ti, Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Zr, a rare earth metal or a rare earth alkali metal or a mixture thereof, 0.001≤h≤4.0, 0.001≤i≤4.0, 0≤j≤2.0, 0.3≤i/h≤10.0 and x is a value determined by an atomic value of other element.
