PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a ceramic composite material that has a heat resistant property and an anti-corrosion property to high temperature steam without the use of radioactive elements, elements having toxicity, or rare elements, and to provide a process for producing ceramic composite material. SOLUTION : The ceramic composite material of the present invention is characterized by comprising a substrate made of SiC and a carbon nanotube layer made of carbon nanotubes covering the surface of the substrate. The process for producing ceramic composite material of the present invention is characterized by comprising a surface decomposition step in which a substrate made of SiC is heated in a vacuum or a CO atmosphere to form a carbon nanotube layer made of carbon nanotubes covering the substrate.
