PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a multicore optical fiber amplifier adopting a clad excitation method, that is capable of reducing gain dependency with regard to a wavelength and increase/decrease in the number of signals and is capable of performing high speed control.
SOLUTION : A multicore optical fiber amplifier comprises : an amplification multicore fiber that is constructed using a double-clad structure and includes a plurality of cores to which rare earth ions have been added; a clad excitation section that includes a multimode clad excitation light source for outputting first excitation light to a clad of the amplification multicore fiber; and a core excitation section that includes a plurality of core excitation units having a core excitation light source for outputting second excitation light. Each of the plurality of core excitation units is optically connected to a corresponding core of the plurality of cores so as to independently output second excitation light to the core of the plurality of cores; the amplification multicore fiber amplifies signal light by using the first and second excitation light.
