PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To enable a rear earth element to be reused by efficiently separating and recovering the rear earth element in reprocessing of a fuel.
SOLUTION : A method for separating and recovering a rare earth element is provided that comprises : a precipitation step (S1) of producing a solid precipitate by subjecting a high-level liquid waste containing a rare earth element, U, and TRU to chemical reaction; an oxide conversion step (S2) of converting the precipitate to a rare earth oxide, an U oxide, and a TRU oxide; a reduction step (S3) of reducing only the U oxide, and the TRU oxide among the oxides to an U metal, and a TRU metal; an immersion treatment step (S4) of immersing the U metal, and the TRU metal in molten Cd; and a separation and recovery step (S5) of separating and recovering the rare earth oxide floating on an interfacial surface of the molten Cd.
