An electrolytic furnace group and an electrolysis method therefor, belonging to the technical fields of rare earth metallurgical electrolysis devices and the use thereof. The electrolytic furnace group comprises a common power source (12), at least two electrolytic furnaces and at least one auxiliary power source (13). Each electrolytic furnace comprises a cathode (31) and an anode (36), and the common power source (12) is connected to the various electrolytic furnaces in the manner that a positive electrode of the common power source (12) is connected to the anode (36) of the first electrolytic furnace, the anode (36) of each electrolytic furnace thereafter is connected to the cathode (31) of the previous electrolytic furnace, and the cathode (31) of the last electrolytic furnace is connected to a negative electrode of the common power source (12). The circuit of the common power source (12), said circuit powering the various electrolytic furnaces, is a main circuit (41). Positive electrodes of the various auxiliary power sources (13) are respectively connected to the anodes (36) of corresponding electrolytic furnaces, and negative electrodes are respectively connected to the cathodes (31) of the various corresponding electrolytic furnaces. The present invention has advantages such as flexible control, convenient usage, high energy utilisation and low power consumption. The product power unit consumption reduces as the number of electrolytic furnaces in the electrolytic furnace group increases.
