PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rotor for IPM motors with which it is possible to reduce the added amount or grain boundary diffusion amount of a heavy rare earth element or other modified metal to a permanent magnet as much as possible, while guaranteeing the coercive field strength of greater than or equal to an opposing magnetic field in the whole area of the permanent magnet. SOLUTION : Provided is a rotor for IPM motors comprising a rotor core 10, magnet slots 1 disposed along the rotation direction of the rotor core 10 with a space therebetween, and a permanent magnet 2 in which modified metal for heightening coercive field strength is grain boundary diffused from the surface, and which is embedded in each of the magnet slots 1. The outer shape of the magnet slots 1 and permanent magnets 2 on the outer circumferential side of the rotor core is composed of a long linear part 1b facing on the outer circumferential surface 10a of the rotor core 10 and two short linear parts 1c intersecting at right angles at two ends of the long linear part 1b, and the shape on the shaft center side of the rotor core is composed of salients linking the ends of the two short linear parts with each other and protruding to the shaft center side.
