PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide, as an optical amplifier of an optical transmission line using a multi-core optical fiber, a multi-core optical amplifier which can supply excitation light having sufficient power to cores although employing a clad batch excitation system. SOLUTION : There is provided an optical amplifier which includes, as an amplification medium, a multi-core optical fiber having a plurality of cores in a clad, the optical amplifier comprising : a multi-core optical fiber (rare earth-added multi-core optical fiber) 40 for excitation light amplification amplifying signal light propagated in a core 43; an optical fiber 20 for excitation light supply which is arranged on an input side of the multi-core optical fiber 40 for excitation light amplification, and supplies excitation light from an excitation light source to the clad for signal light input to each core 23; and an optical fiber 30 for excitation light coupling which is interposed between the multi-core optical fiber for excitation light amplification and the optical fiber for excitation light supply, and achieves coupling of the excitation light from a clad mode to a core mode using a reverse-coupling long-period grating structure provided to each core 33.
