PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for producing a high density rare earth-iron-nitrogen based alloy material, capable of obtaining a rare-earth magnet excellent in magnetic characteristics with high productivity. SOLUTION : A method for producing a high density rare earth-iron-nitrogen based alloy material includes a housing step for housing at least one molding 10 composed of multiple alloy particles 11 consisting of a rare earth-iron based alloy in a case 100 having a plurality of vents 101 through which a nitrogen element-containing gas can be distributed, and a nitriding step for heat-treating the molding 10 housed in the case 100, in a nitrogen element-containing gas atmosphere, at a temperature between the nitriding temperature of the molding 10 and the nitrogen disproportionation temperature, and forming a rare earth-iron-nitrogen based alloy material 20, while restraining outward cubical expansion of the molding 10 due to the heat treatment, by at least a part of the inner surface of the case 100.
