PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a concentration technique of rare earth elements which enables easy and reliable separation of rare earth elements from iron group elements from an object to be treated.
SOLUTION : The temperature of a mixture M of a neodymium magnet and a sulfurizing agent put in a crucible 22 is raised to e.g. 1, 150-1, 550°C, and the temperature-raised state is kept for 1-6 h after the temperature raising (melt separation step). The mixture M is thereby separated into a sulfide phase F1 based on sulfides of Nd and Dy and a metal phase F2 based on Fe in the crucible 22, which causes most of Nd and Dy constituting the neodymium magnet to be transferred to the sulfide phase F1 and concentrated.
