PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide : a rare earth magnet having a high residual magnetic flux density and a high coercive force; and a method for manufacturing such a rare earth magnet. SOLUTION : A rare earth magnet is manufactured by hot plastic working on an R-Fe-B based alloy including a rare earth element R, Fe and B. The rare earth magnet has a composition including 32-37 mass% of R and 1.1-1.5 mass% of B. The rare earth magnet has a structure including main phases 11 of an R2Fe14B compound, and grain boundary phases which are present at crystal grain boundaries of the main phase and higher than the main phase in R concentration. In the rare earth magnet, the main phases have an average crystal grain diameter of 500 nm or less; the residual magnetic flux density Br is 1.15 T or larger; and the coercive force iHc is 1200 kA/m or larger.
