PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a compact for magnet capable of manufacturing an arcuate compact for magnet with less variation in density at a low molding pressure.
SOLUTION : A manufacturing method comprises : a hydrogenation step of producing a hydrogenated alloy 10h which is a rare earth-iron-based alloy 10 hydrotreated in an atmosphere including hydrogen at a temperature of disproportionation or higher; a pulverizing step of preparing hydrogenated powder 20 by mechanically pulverizing the hydrogenated alloy 10h; and a compact forming step of forming an arcuate powder compact by compression molding powder for magnet including the hydrogenated powder 20. The compact forming step includes : a preliminary molding step of forming a plate-like preliminary compact 51a by compression molding powder for magnet under a molding pressure of 588 MPa or less; and a shaping step of shaping the plate-like preliminary compact 51a, which is heated at a temperature of 250°C or higher and 600°C or lower, into an arcuate shape under a molding pressure of 588 MPa or less.
