Provided is a method for sensing methyl salicylate, which is a plant hormone released when a disease infection occurs in cultivation of plants including agricultural crops, thereby detecting, in-situ, a disease infection in a plant at an early stage. With the present embodiment, it is possible to detect a disease infection in a plant at an early stage by : using, as a sensing receptor, a rare-earth compound that forms a complex by selectively recognizing methyl salicylate, which is a plant hormone released by a plant when infected with a pathogen; and using changes in a fluorescence emission phenomenon or electrochemical behavior after reacting with the methyl salicylate.
