PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a separation method that exerts little influence on the environment. SOLUTION : A method for separating from a composite material containing at least tungsten and other rare metals the tungsten and the other rare metals, comprises : an oxidation process of heating the composite material in the oxygen atmosphere to produce a mixture including a tungsten oxide and the other rare metals oxides; and a distillation process of heating the mixture in an atmosphere having a lower pressure than the atmospheric pressure to separate it into the tungsten oxide in a solid state and the other rare metals the oxides in a gas state. An apparatus for separating the tungsten and other rare metals from a composite material containing at least tungsten and other rare metals, comprises : a heat treatment part for heating the composite material to produce a tungsten oxide in a solid state and the other rare metals oxides in a gas state; and a vacuum exhaust part for reducing the pressure of the atmosphere in the heat treatment part lower than the atmospheric pressure.
