PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a multi-core fiber for amplification that can reduce the number of constituent parts and miniaturize an optical amplifier.
SOLUTION : A multi-core fiber amplifier has at least two multi-core fiber amplification units arranged in series, each multi-core fiber amplification unit having a multi-core fiber for amplification in which rare earth ions are added to a core, and an exciting light source for generating exciting light for exciting the rare earth ions. At least one multi-core fiber for amplification of the multi-core fiber amplification unit has a core in which signal light input to the multi-core fiber amplification unit propagates, and a clad in which the exciting light propagates. The other multi-core fibers for amplification of the multi-core fiber amplification unit have multiplexing means for multiplexing the signal light and the exciting light, and inputting the multiplexed light to each of the cores of the other multi-core fibers for amplification. The exciting light power of the exciting light is adjusted on the basis of a calculation result of the signal light power of the signal light input to the multi-core fiber amplifier and the signal light power of signal light which is amplified and output by the multi-core fiber amplifier.
