Provided are : a rare earth permanent magnet which is increased in the density after sintering; and a method for producing a rare earth permanent magnet. A compound (12) is formed by grinding a magnet starting material into a magnet powder and mixing the ground magnet powder with a binder. Then, the compound (12) is molded into a sheet on a supporting base (13) by hot melt molding, thereby producing a green sheet (14). After that, the molded green sheet (14) is heated and softened, and magnetic field orientation is carried out by applying a magnetic field to the heated green sheet (14). The green sheet (14) after the magnetic field orientation is sintered in vacuum, and is subsequently sintered under pressure, thereby producing a permanent magnet (1).
