PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method in which a rare metal, such as indium and rare earth, that is difficult to separate, can be selectively separated at low cost, and especially to provide a method in which, from an aqueous solution containing neodymium ion and dysprosium ion, dysprosium ion can selectively and at low cost be separated.
SOLUTION : Provided is a method for separating rare metal by water-based fractional precipitation in which a water-soluble phosphoric acid diester, such as dibutyl phosphate ester and hydrogen phosphate=bis[2- (methacryloyloxy)ethyl], is used as a coordinated polymer forming agent, and in which, in an aqueous solution containing an ion of rare metal, the ion is selectively brought into polymer coordination, and thus into fractional precipitation.
