FIELD : chemistry.
SUBSTANCE : titanium material for a polymer-electrolyte fuel cell separator according to the invention consists of 0.005-0.15 wt % of a platinum group metal and 0.002-0.10 wt % of a rare-earth metal, with Ti and impurities making up the balance. The titanium material can be provided with a film having good electrical conductivity on its surface, while requiring a shorter pickling process since the material contains a rare-earth metal. The titanium material according to the present invention is provided with a film formed from titanium oxide and a platinum group metal on its surface. Preferably, the film has thickness of 50 nm or less and concentration of the platinum group metal on the surface of the film is 1.5 wt % or higher. In the titanium material according to the present invention, the rare-earth metal is preferably Y and the platinum group metal is preferably Pd.
EFFECT : low initial contact resistance and good corrosion resistance.
