The catalyst composition contains a vanadate of formula XVO4/S, where XVO4 denotes a vanadate of Bi, Sb, Ga and/or Al, optionally in a mixture with one or more vanadates of rare-earth metals, or in a mixture with one or more vanadates of transition metals, or in a mixture with one or more vanadates of transition metals and one or more vanadates of rare-earth metals, and S is a support which includes TiO2. A method of producing the catalyst composition is also disclosed.
