PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet, capable of enhancing magnetic characteristics on the assumption that hot plastic processing for imparting a high stress to a sintered body under a high temperature atmosphere is performed, when manufacturing the rare earth magnet through the hot plastic processing.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a rare earth magnet comprises : a first step of manufacturing a rare earth magnet powder which is used as a rare earth magnet material obtained by manufacturing a rapid-quenched thin ribbon having fine crystal grains by liquid quenching and pulverizing it and which consists of a RE-Fe-B based main phase (RE : at least one kind of Nd and Pr) and a grain boundary phase of a RE-X alloy (X : a metal element) existing around the main phase; a second step of press-molding the rare earth magnet powder to manufacture a sintered body; and a third step of performing hot plastic processing for imparting anisotropy to the sintered body to manufacture a rare earth magnet. At least one of the first step and the second step is performed under a nitrogen atmosphere to control a nitride amount in the powder in a range of 1, 000 ppm or more and less than 3, 000 ppm.
