PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a method for manufacturing a NdFeB sintered magnet which is high in the coercive force HcJ, and high in the maximum energy product (BH)max and the value of a squareness ratio SQ even in the case of having a thickness of 5 mm or more.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a NdFeB sintered magnet comprises the steps of : preparing fine powder including primary-phase grains of a NdFeB magnet with a rare earth-rich phase deposited thereon; sintering the fine powder, thereby preparing a base material of the NdFeB magnet in which the quantity of the rare earth in a metal state is 12.7-16.0% by atomic percentage; and performing a grain boundary diffusion treatment for diffusing Dy and/or Tb into the base material from the base material surface by 10 mg or more per sq. centimeter by applying powder of a metal or alloy including Dy and/or Tb to a surface of the base material, and heating at a predetermined temperature.
