PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a lithium nickelate-based positive electrode active material which enables the enhancement of cycle characteristics at a high voltage.
SOLUTION : A method for manufacturing a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries comprises the steps of : producing second core particles by dropping a first liquid solution containing a rare earth element and a second liquid solution containing fluorine onto core particles while stirring the core particles of a lithium transition metal complex oxide expressed by the general formula, LiaNi1-x-y-zCoxM1yM2zO2 (where 1.00≤a≤1.50; 0.00≤x≤0.50; 0.00≤y≤0.50; 0.00≤z≤0.02; x+y≤0.70; M1 represents at least one element selected from a group consisting of Mn and Al; and M2 represents at least one element selected from a group consisting of Zr, W, Ti, Mg, Ta, Nb and Mo) so that the rare earth element becomes 0.02-0.15 mol% to the core particles, and the fluorine becomes 0.07-0.5 mol% to the core particles; and performing a thermal treatment on the second core particles at a thermal treatment temperature lower than 500°C.
