PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To obtain a photocatalyst having an excellent catalytic activity without using rare earth elements. SOLUTION : CuO4octahedron 18 is formed by substitutionally solid-solubilizing copper ions in a part of the titanium ion sites in a crystal structure of titanium dioxide. The crystal generated by the substitution is brookite. Vacancies 20a and 20b are present in the neighborhood of the copper ions. These vacancies 20a and 20b are the sites where oxygen ions are present before the substitution. Namely, the vacancies 20a and 20b create oxygen defects. COPYRIGHT : (C)2013, JPO&INPIT
