PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide an alloy exhibiting resistance to 70% sulphuric acid at 93°C and resistance to 50% sodium hydroxide at 121°C and capable of being proceeded to wrought.
SOLUTION : The alloy contains, by weight percent, chrome of 27 to 33, molybdenum of 4.9 to 7.8, copper : 3.1 to 6.0 wt.% when chrome is 30 to 33 wt.% or copper 4.7 to 6.0 wt.% when chrome is 27 to 29.9 wt.%, iron of maximum 3.0, manganese of 0.3 to 1.0, aluminum of 0.1 to 0.5, silicon of 0.1 to 0.8, carbon of 0.01 to 0.11, nitrogen of maximum 0.13, magnesium of maximum 0.05, rare earth element of maximum 0.05 and the balance nickel with impurities. Titanium or other MC-type carbide forming elements can be added for thermal stability improvement of the alloy.
