PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a noncontact-type strain/stress measuring method capable of measuring the strain or stress in static and dynamic pulling/compression directions with high accuracy, and determining each directionality thereof, or the like. SOLUTION : A strain/stress sensor 10 including an oxide-based ceramics sintered body formed by adding a rare earth element, such as Eu to MAl2O4(M=Sr, Ca or Ba) as emission center ion, in which an emission wavelength, when irradiating excitation light fluctuates according to the intensity of a strain/stress, and a fluctuation direction of the emission wavelength is different according to the direction of the strain/stress, is installed on a structure 1. The strain/stress sensor 10 is irradiated with an exciting light 11 to undergo fluorescence emission 12, and the emission wavelength is measured by a wavelength measuring means; and emission wavelength change with respect to a reference emission wavelength, when a strain is not generated in the structure, and its direction are measured, to thereby measure the strain or the stress generated in the structure 1, and to determine its directionality.
