The invention relates to an aluminum- free magnesium alloy consisting of a composition formed from at least 87.5 % wt% magnesium, by adding between 0.5 - 2.0 wt% cerium, 0.2 - 2.0 wt% lanthanum, 0 - 5 wt % of at least one other metal from the group of rare earth, 1.5 - 3.0 wt% of a manganese compound and 0 - 0.5 wt% of a phosphorous compound.
