PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED : To provide a rubber composition for a base tread capable of improving steering stability, rolling resistance characteristic and durability without reducing extrusion processability. SOLUTION : There is provided a rubber composition for a base tread containing (a) 0 mass% or more and less than 20 mass% of polybutadiene rubber containing 2.5 to 20 mass% of 1, 2-syndiotactic polybutadiene crystal (a1) and/or a butadiene rubber synthesized by using rare earth-based catalyst (a2), (b) over 5 mass% and 60 mass% or less of a prescribed tin modified polybutadiene rubber (b1) and/or a modified butadiene rubber modified by a prescribed compound (b2), and (c) 36 to 60 pts.mass of a filler for reinforcement containing 1.8 pts.mass to 3.5 pts.mass of sulfur and 7 pts.mass or more of silica based on 100 pts.mass of a rubber composition containing 40 to 75 mass% of a diene-based rubber other than (a) and (b).
