Provided is a multilayer ceramic capacitor that exhibits good electrical characteristics and reliability and also has a structure whereby elution into an organic acid is inhibited. This multilayer ceramic capacitor (1) contains a ceramic main body (10) provided with the following : an inner-layer section (12) comprising a plurality of inner-layer ceramic layers (16) and a plurality of internal electrodes (18, 19) laid out along interfaces between said inner-layer ceramic layers (16); and outer-layer sections (14) comprising outer-layer ceramic layers (20a, 20b) laid out above and below the inner-layer section (12) so as to sandwich same. The principal component of the inner-layer ceramic layers (16) and the outer-layer sections (14) is a perovskite compound that can be represented by the formula ABO3 (in which A represents at least one of barium, strontium, and calcium; B represents at least one of titanium, zirconium, and hafnium; and O represents oxygen). The concentration (CR) of rare-earth elements in the inner-layer ceramic layers (16) and the concentration (Cr) of rare-earth elements in outermost-layer sections of the outer-layer sections (14), including at least the outermost surfaces thereof, satisfy the relation CR > Cr (allowing Cr = 0).
